Rhode Island is no stranger to big ideas packed into small places, and now the state is becoming the launchpad for a creative movement unlike anything the region has seen. The Search, a first-of-its-kind artistic development initiative, is stepping forward with a mission rooted in connection, mentorship, and the belief that local talent deserves stages as bold as their dreams.
Born in Cranston and shaped by the grit and independence Rhode Islanders wear like a badge, The Search fills a real gap for performers who are ready to be seen, supported, and celebrated. Across New England, countless creatives perfect their craft behind closed doors, hoping for a chance to level up. This initiative answers that need with a platform built on visibility, growth, and a community-first approach.
The idea took off just over a year ago when Co-Creator and Executive Producer Ed Brady shared the concept with musicians Kara McKee and Johnny Gates. Both instantly saw the spark and jumped in to help build something that felt bigger than a traditional showcase. From early brainstorming sessions to the first open call at Myrtle in East Providence. where singers Sioo and Alexa Picillo were discovered, momentum took hold fast.
And it hasn’t slowed down since. Hundreds of submissions rolled in, open calls popped up across the state, and 45 emerging artists from throughout New England were selected for this inaugural pilot season. “In a small state filled with incredible talent, The Search gives everyday Rhode Islanders and creatives from across New England a place to shine,” said Brady. “Our mission is to build a collaborative and uplifting environment where artists can grow, share their stories, and inspire others. This is about local impact and people, not egos and profits.”
What sets The Search apart is its dedication to real, long-term development. Finalists are paired with working creatives from across the region for hands-on mentorship in music, film, digital media, performance, and branding. Their journeys are documented through interviews, rehearsals, and behind-the-scenes footage that captures both the magic and the mess of creative growth.
This season also brings together a powerhouse lineup of Rhode Island talent. Mentors and judges include Chachi Carvalho, Charlie Hall, Ericka Joy Atwell Cardona, Sean P. Rogan, Big Lux, Tara Iacobucci, and more. Filmmakers Ryan Ardito and Aaron Ferro lead production, bringing each artist’s story to life with heart and intention.
Performers will advance through several live rounds, leading up to a filmed finale in early 2026. Along the way, top artists will receive professional development, media exposure, prizes, and lasting support through The Search’s growing creative network.
With its roots in mentorship, community collaboration, and authentic storytelling, The Search is building something meaningful and long-lasting. Rhode Island’s creative spirit has always been strong, but now it finally has a stage big enough to match its ambition.
