Rhode Island Pets Take the Stage in Heart of RI’s Annual Contest

The Real Housepets of Rhode Island theme spotlights the state’s most lovable companions while raising funds to help local rescue animals

Forget reality TV drama, because Rhode Island’s newest stars have fur, feathers, and more personality than an entire reunion special. Heart of Rhode Island’s annual pet calendar contest is back, and this year’s theme, The Real Housepets of Rhode Island, promises charm, sass, and tail-wagging fun for a good cause.

Event coordinator Jordyn Maymon says the contest celebrates community while helping animals in need. “The annual contest hosted by Heart of RI brings together Rhode Islanders to celebrate pets in a fun and inclusive way, while supporting our mission of rescuing, providing quality care, and securing forever homes for companion animals,” she explains. “It promotes kindness, respect, and responsible pet ownership among our community.”

With The Real Housewives of Rhode Island set to make its debut sometime in the near future, Maymon knew this year’s theme was the perfect fit. “I wanted something fun, current, and relatable,” she says. “It gives pets and owners from all walks of life a chance to participate. Whether your pet is glamorous, goofy, or totally down to earth, there’s room for everyone to shine.”

Entering the contest is easy. Participants upload a photo of their pet along with their name and a short bio by December 7. Each one-dollar vote counts as a donation to Heart of RI, directly funding veterinary care, food, bedding, and spay or neuter services. “Every vote becomes a monetary donation that goes directly to supporting the animals in our care,” says Maymon.

The top eleven pets earn calendar fame, with the winning pet scoring the cover and bragging rights for the year. Every participant gets featured somewhere, so no one is left out of the spotlight. Fans can also “Reserve a Day” to celebrate a pet’s birthday, adoption anniversary, or rainbow bridge day.

Those without pets can still join the fun by purchasing a 2026 calendar for twenty-five dollars, donating, or sharing the contest link. As Maymon puts it, “You don’t need to have adopted from our rescue to participate. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun.” For more information about Heart of RI and The Real Housepets of Rhode Island, visit HeartOfRI.org or follow along on Instagram at @heartofri.
