Some shopping lists are better left unwritten, especially when nearly 100 vintage booths are involved. That’s the situation at WaterFire Arts Center October 3 and 4, when Little City Thrifty returns to Providence with two days of vintage clothing, home décor, vinyl, books, jewelry, art, collectibles, ephemera, accessories, and plenty of finds that were probably not on the original plan.

Vendors from Rhode Island and 11 other states will fill the Valley Street space, bringing an eclectic mix of pieces sourced from across the country and beyond. For shoppers, part of the appeal is not knowing exactly what will turn up until they start digging.

Co-founder BJ Mansuetti says that sense of discovery is part of what keeps the market fun. “You’re pretty much guaranteed to have a great time, and probably leave with something you didn’t know you needed.”

The market’s scale may be big, but Little City Thrifty keeps the experience rooted in small businesses and reuse. Co-owner Robin Dionne has collected and sold vintage since high school, and the search still holds its appeal. “I still get excited by the hunt for something unique, unusual, or potentially forgotten that just makes you smile,” she says. “Even better is knowing you’re giving something another life instead of sending it to a landfill.”

That philosophy extends past the racks. Little City Thrifty operates as a fully compostable market, with food and beverage serving ware collected and processed locally by Epic Renewal. Shoppers can also refuel with food from two local restaurants and a bakery, coffee from New Harvest Coffee Roasters, and beer, specialty cocktails, and mocktails from Inside Voices.

The market runs noon to 6 p.m. both days, with an 11 a.m. Early Buying Hour for shoppers chasing first dibs. Early-entry ticket holders also receive a limited-edition tote printed in Providence by Hungry Ghost Press.

Advance tickets start at $8, while door admission is $10 if tickets remain. Entry includes a drink ticket for a small beverage from participating sponsors or a discount toward a full-sized drink. For the full vendor lineup, ticket details, and more information, visit LittleCityThrifty.com.
