HopArts Studio Trail Opens the Doors to Southern Rhode Island’s Creative Side

The 20th annual self-guided tour winds through working studios, barns, village spaces, and back roads across Hopkinton, Richmond, and nearby communities

Fall drives through southern Rhode Island have a way of turning the scenic route into the preferred one. During the HopArts Studio Trail, those back roads come with another reason to pull over: numbered banners pointing toward studios tucked inside barns, old post offices, mill buildings, and homes. For one October weekend, the places where local artists usually work quietly become destinations of their own.

The 20th annual HopArts Studio Trail returns Saturday and Sunday, October 17-18, from 10am-4pm. The free, self-guided tour stretches through Hopkinton, Richmond, and nearby villages including Hope Valley, Rockville, Wyoming, Carolina, and Ashaway.

Instead of seeing finished pieces under gallery lights, visitors can step into the spaces where they actually take shape. One stop might lead to shelves of stoneware fresh from the kiln, while the next brings fiber art in progress, jewelry beside a workbench, or paintings hanging a few feet from the brushes that made them. Artists are on hand to talk process, answer questions, and offer a closer look at their craft.

The drive between stops becomes part of the experience. A studio along a village Main Street might be followed by a barn or community space a few miles away, with the route threading through some of the quieter corners of southwestern Rhode Island. Past trails have included Post Office Studio in Rockville, Carolina Pottery and Carolina Fiber Center, and several creative spaces around Hope Valley.

Many artists also sell directly from their studios, making the weekend a chance to find pottery, jewelry, paintings, textiles, woodwork, and other pieces made close to home. Some locations add demonstrations, raffles, or light refreshments along the way. Visit HopArts.org for the 2026 Studio Trail map, participating artists, and event updates.
