Step into a world of magic, myth, and movement as Ocean State Ballet brings the iconic Firebird to life in honor of its fifth anniversary. The local company will perform at the Woodman Family Community and Performance Center at Moses Brown School in Providence, with showtimes on April 5 at 6pm and April 6 at 2pm.

Founded in 2020 by internationally acclaimed dancers and real-life couple Vilia Putrius and Mindaugas Bauzys, Ocean State Ballet has quickly become a cornerstone of Rhode Island’s dance scene. With a mission to provide classical ballet training in a nurturing, creative environment, the company continues to inspire young dancers and audiences alike.

“The Firebird was a natural choice for our fifth anniversary,” says Putrius, who also serves as the choreographer for the production. “It’s a story about transformation and courage – things every dancer experiences on their journey.”

Set to the electrifying score by Igor Stravinsky, The Firebird was originally commissioned in 1910 by Serge Diaghilev for the Ballets Russes, launching Stravinsky’s career and revolutionizing ballet. Ocean State Ballet’s production adds its own flair while honoring the timeless energy of the original.

In addition to The Firebird, the spring performance will include Hues of Poise, designed to highlight the dancers’ technical skill and expressive range. “We want our students and audiences to see the power of storytelling through movement,” said Bauzys.

More than just a performance, the event celebrates five years of community, creativity, and commitment to the future of ballet in Rhode Island. “This company is a dream realized,” says Putrius. “And we’re only just beginning.” For more information and to purchase tickets, visit EncoreTicketing.com.
