“We wanted everyone to walk in and feel both at home and immersed in a dream-like world filled with warmth and nostalgia,” Scarborough says. “We’ve all had that experience of stepping into a new space and feeling like we don’t belong. We wanted to create a place where that would never happen.”
That sense of belonging extends beyond decor. Dream State Beauty Collective was designed as a space where both clients and artists feel at ease, especially those in the queer community. Earlier this year, the salon hosted a pay-what-you-can Gender Affirming Hair and Nail Day, donating all proceeds to Haus of Codec, a nonprofit dedicated to ending queer youth homelessness in Rhode Island. “We felt the best way to show our love and support was by giving back through what we do best: our services,” Scarborough says.
