The Weekend Rundown: July 21-23

Posted

July 21: The WBRU Summer Concert Series defines summer in the city as a giant group of happy people sipping ‘Gansetts and dancing in Waterplace Park. This year’s series kicks off on Friday with Rhody’s own Cannibal Ramblers opening for Unlikely Candidates.

July 21 and 22: Providence’s own Arc Iris are making hometown stops on their latest tour as they put their dreamy, spaced-out spin on Joni Mitchell’s classic album, Blue. You can catch this total re-imagining at the POP Emporium in Providence on Friday and the Pumphouse in Wakefield on Saturday.

July 21 and 23: Enjoy the finer things at The Kingston Chamber Music Festival, which will host seven classical music concerts that bring together top musicians from some of the country’s premier orchestras. This weekend will feature Beethoven’s Great Fugue on Friday and Three Piece With Piano on Sunday.

July 21–23: Soar above South County in a hot air balloon. The South County Hot Air Balloon Festival comes back from July 21 to 23 at the URI Athletic Fields in Kingston. The sky fills with colorful balloons, which you can fly in, if you choose, and there’s food, fireworks, a car show, family entertainment and live music by Roomful of Blues.

July 23: The ‘70s was a golden age of rock and this weekend you can relive those classic sounds at 70s Rock SummerFest at North Kingstown Beach. Featuring regional tribute bands covering Steely Dan, The Doors and Led Zeppelin, this far out concert is also a tribute to Vietnam veterans, with proceeds going towards the local charitable foundation Live Life.

July 23: The Barrington Summer Concert Series brings great local music to Barrington Town Beach on Sundays this summer. This Sunday, local roots rockers the Becky Chace Band will take the stage.
