Along Route 138 at the junction of Route 108, find Fayerweather House (1859 Mooresfield Road/Rte 138), a small white dwelling that serves as a non-profit and offers a range of goods handmade by members. Nearby, find Allison B. Goodsell, Rare Books (2528 Kingstown Rd.). Peter Pots Pottery (494 Glen Rock Rd.) is a Rhode Island staple, crafting beautiful and functional stoneware since 1948.

DINE

Brewery and taproom Shaidzon Beer Company (141 Fairgrounds Rd.) gets extra crafty by using locally grown herbs and hops in select brews like their Lowland Villager Saison and Hoped Up IPA. TLC Coffee Roasters (3362 Kingstown Rd.), a nearby specialty cafe, roasts its own beans and serves 21 iced coffees on tap. If you need some food to wash all those beverages down, Philadelphia’s famed fare can be found at Tilly’s Cheesesteaks (3711 Kingstown Rd.), a laid-back spot that serves classic and creative variations of the cheesy sandwich.

EXPLORE

Kingston is best known as the home of the University of Rhode Island (45 Upper College Rd.), which is perfect for a picturesque stroll any time. The South County Art Association (2587 Kingstown Rd.), a member-based artist organization, offers a variety of educational programs, classes, and exhibits to the public throughout the year. Musical performances
at the Courthouse Center for the Arts (3481 Kingstown Rd.) range from classic rock tribute bands to family-friendly concerts. The Kingston Chamber Music Festival hopes to return for July 22 through August 2; in the meantime, visit KingstonChamberMusic.org for a schedule of virtual concerts.

PLAY

Since 1696, Kenyon’s Grist Mill (21 Glen Rock Rd.) has been grinding out the cornmeal that makes Rhode Island’s iconic johnnycakes, which are savory corn pancakes available at diners all over South County. In addition to the bucolic setting, Kenyon also offers kayaking on the Queen’s River.
