Celebrate Ocean State Small Businesses

Posted

This year, ignore the big box stores’ efforts to charm you away from your family on Thanksgiving and opt instead to join in on Small Business Saturday. Local independent business owners all over the state will be celebrating with festivities and sales in the days after Thanksgiving, making for some unique shopping finds and a uniquely Rhody experience.

Friday
Spend the day at Roger Williams Park Zoo, which is offering free admission for Black Friday. Check out the red pandas and snow leopards, and bring a non-perishable food item to benefit the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.

Trade Black Friday for Block Friday when Block Island’s annual holiday shopping spree returns. Get your shopping stroll entry form at the ferry dock to be entered in a raffle at the end of the weekend.

Saturday
Downtown Providence businesses are joining in Small Business Saturday fun for Celebrate Downcity 2017. Shop up and down Westminster Street, and be sure to stop by Grant’s Block to get your picture taken with Santa Claus himself.

Over on Providence’s East Side, The Hope Street Merchants Association will be celebrating with festive events alongside sales and promotions – like free gift wrapping – all day long.

While you’re shopping local in Westerly, don’t forget to listen local as well. Perks & Corks is hosting their Small Business Saturday Songwriters Show, featuring eight local performers starting at 1pm with Haunt the House.

The artists at 30 Cutler Street in Warren are welcoming shoppers into their historic mill studios for their holiday art sale. Browse the work of dozens of artists across all mediums, and get a peek into their creative worlds.

Additional Small Business Saturday deals and events will be happening all over the state, so keep an eye on Facebook to see what’s happening in Wickford Village, East Greenwich, Tiverton Four Corners and more.

Monday

Providence Moms Blog is taking the “cyber” out of Cyber Monday by hosting ShopPVD Live at the Malted Barley downtown. This IRL event will feature local businesses and their hand-picked gift ideas, plus the added bonus of beer and pretzels.
