Earth Day Every Day

Posted

Earth Day is April 22, but that doesn’t mean that caring for the planet should just happen on one day. Volunteer at a community cleanup, learn more about the planet or simply make a small change to do your part.

The Party for the Planet at Roger Williams Park Zoo is, they promise, “as big and green as the Earth itself.” All through April vacation – from April 17-21 – there are free events included with zoo admission every day. Families will explore the world through the lens of the different regions featured at the zoo: Africa, Tropical America, Australasia and North America. There will be Keeper Talks with people who care for the animals, opportunities to meet the zoo’s animal ambassadors and activities and demonstrations.

On April 22, environmentally minded families will gather at the State House for a March for Science, hosted by Rhode Island Families in Nature. The Earth Day event is happening all over the world to show support for science: the Rhode Island event will start with a rally at the State House, and then continue on to a one-mile march.

Earth Day at the Rhode Island State House, hosted by the Environmental Council of RI happens this year on April 30. It’s a day of learning about the organizations in the state that help make RI a cleaner place, with a discussion with local politicians about what is happening at the state level to help the environment.

The Pride in Pawtucket Earth Day Cleanup on May 6 gathers people to clean up public spaces all around the city, with refreshments, and educational art and materials.

The Partnership for Providence Parks is joining forces with Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza for a massive, citywide Earth Day initiative. On April 22, there will be over 40 cleanups throughout the city, with over 2,000 volunteers all working to make Providence a more beautiful place.

Ocean Notion is an organization that works to keep Rhode Island’s waters clean. Founded by URI students, Ocean Notion helps businesses become more eco-friendly, hosts regular cleanup events and has removed over 2,500 pounds of trash from the ocean.
