Community MusicWorks’ popular “Sonata Series” showcases our Resident Musicians & Fellows in duo performances, set amidst the splendor of the RISD Museum’s Grand Gallery. Join us Thursday, November 15 as violinists Sarah Kim & David Rubin partner with percussionist Piero Guimaraes for a program of virtuoso duos.
Kirsten Volness (co-director, Verdant Vibes; music faculty, University of Rhode Island) contributes a stunning new work for percussion & violin: a gentle, unsettling fantasy on two Brazilian/Portuguese proverbs (“There’s no good that lasts forever nor evil that never ends / If you don’t have a dog, you hunt with a cat”). Volness’ premiere is framed by two contrasting showpieces: Philippe Leroux’s volcanic Air-Ré, and Astor Piazzolla’s L’Histoire du Tango, a perennial favorite.
Program:
Philippe Leroux — Air-Ré for violin and percussion (1992)
Kirsten Volness — Lush Escapist Dream for percussion and violin (2018)
Astor Piazzolla — L’Histoire du Tango
Thursday, November 15 at 7pm
RISD Museum, Grand Gallery
Admission to the museum and concert is free
